The Last Two Weeks…

*in Shared Reading we finished up “Growing Vegetable Soup” and wrote our own book about what we would plant in our own garden

*in Shared Reading we started Rosie’s Walk and wrote our own class book titled “Mr. Field’s Walk” and read it to him

*in “Writer’s Workshop” the children have decided they wanted to “Fix Up And Fancy” one last piece so they decided on that piece on Wednesday and will fix it up next week

*we have gotten a couple new color books (brown and yellow) to add to our “read to self collection”

*a group of high school kids made spanish books for our kids so in “Friday Stations” Miss. B. read them with the kids and they got to bring some home

This coming Wednesday (Maya 18th) is the last  week to check out books in the library.  The following week we will just be turning our books in.  This week we had a lot of children forget their books.  Please help them remember to bring them on Wednesday so they can do one last book check out.

*we began reading “Growing Vegetable Soup” and made our own vegetable soup and enjoyed eating it Friday afternoon (thanks to those that donated)

*in “Writer’s Workshop” we have really been working hard on stretching out words and using “spaceman” to separate our words

*we finished up our Four Season’s mobile and will be hanging them up around the room as they get assembled

*we learned a song and got a book to add to our “Read To Self Book Boxes” about the color green

A Quiet Week

I really don’t have much to write about this week.  I will fill you in on the last two weeks but besides that I don’t have much to share.  I do want to let you know that the calendar I sent home Friday didn’t have the Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3 schedule on it so it is as follows.

The last two weeks…

* in shared reading we finished  Mrs. Wishy Washy by acting out the story (be looking for pictures next week demonstrating our acting skills) and illustrating our own book

*we began our book Click Clack Moo Cows That Type and had a take home assignment to go with that story (look for it in your child’s folder)

*we have been working hard on our Mother’s Day gifts and getting them ready to come home next week

*we  finished our number writing books

*we have continued to build up our “Read to Self” stamina

For our Family Night I am looking for a few items.  If you have any of the following around at home and could donate them to our classroom we would really appreciate it.  These are just some suggestions, if you have something else at home that you think we could use that night for a creative project, you may send it in as well.  Please send them to school by March 28th.

old wire hangers
paper towel rolls
plastic containers (yogurt, butter, cottage cheese-
please wash out prior to sending in)
cereal boxes (or other small boxes)
egg cartoons (please wash out before sending in)
googly eyes
cotton balls
q-tips
yarn
paper plates

Thanks for helping out!!

Pajama Day

We are going to have a fun reading day for the kids.  The Pre-K and Kindergarten classes are going to end the month of March with a fun reading day. The children can wear their pajamas and slippers to school on Wednesday March 30th. They can bring a small pillow and a small stuffed animal to use on the floor for reading. In the morning the children will have four centers to go to.  At each center they will hear a book and do an activity to bring home.  We want this to be a fun start to their Spring break.

Thanks To Our Community Helpers

I wanted to thank Denice Kooiker and Kim Vruggink for coming in to talk about their careers.  The children really enjoyed themselves.

School Carnival

Just a reminder that our school carnival is tomorrow from 11:00-2:00. I know they are still in need of volunteers so if you are interested please email Ron Terpstra at rterpstr@hpseagles.net.

March Is Reading Home Activities

I have attached a form(again) to print out and cut apart to send in as you and your child finish up the activity.  If you would like a paper copy let me know and I will send one home. Please click here for the at home activities form. As they come back to school I will be posting a book cut out in the hall with your child’s name with a sticker for each home activity they have completed.

Rhyming

I just wanted to send a quick note about rhyming after talking to some of you at conferences.  We do a lot of rhyming at school and I was happy to hear that it is carrying over and you too are hearing it at home.  I just wanted to let you know that it is absolutely acceptable if they give you a rhyming word that isn’t a real word.  At school we call those Dr. Seuss words.  It is the concept of rhyming that I want them to learn.  It is also great to talk about whether it is a real word or not it helps expand their vocabulary as well.

The last week we

*have continued to write our numbers

* we have continued to work with Humpty Dumpty cutting out the pieces to help retell the story and then as a class we cut apart the whole rhyme and put it back together

*we had two community helpers come in to talk about their careers
